This following wallpaper is nice and laid back. It features a sporty lady, chilling before a workout. The Jason Brooks illustration is from a very, very long time ago, 2002! It’s from Hed Kandi’s 26th album: Back to love 4 (Available from Amazon).

I’ve created a bit more space up top to keep wallpaper from being too ‘in your face’ and overpowering on your desktop. This matches the blue colours, which are nice and muted.

Now for some sunshine during the cold winter months! Two dark haired babes in summer garb, flashing shades — just makes the winter melt away! This was one of the easier Jason Brooks illustrations to addapt — I just added some white! I did give some special cropping consideration to the mobile wallpaper, which comes in two flavours.

The album this illustration is for is available from Hed Kandi directly and also from Amazon. (Both shops also have digital offers — but you don’t get the physical album cover with them of course!) You can also order the artwork on canvas, directly from Hed Kandi.

The backgrounds are back! This new Jason Brooks illustrated wallpaper features a fantastically sexy white haired lady and used for the cover of Hed Kandi 87: Twisted Disco, a house music album for the more rave-like, club-type music and was released in 2009. (It’s also available from Amazon). Here’s the preview of the main, full-screen desktop wallpaper:

Adapting this illustration for wallpaper use took a bit longer than the others, as I had to clear away the background very carefully, as well as having to fill in some missing bits, from taking out the lens flares. The loose hair was by far the most difficult. I imagine taking care of a real long mane like that is, while still quite involving, a lot easier! Here’s the preview of the mobile wallpaper:

We return to our regular programming. It’s a Jason Brooks wallpaper. Based on an Hed Kandi house music album cover. It’s bright and vibrant. Features a chilled out, relaxed babe on a stripy, pink background. It makes a fantastic desktop or mobile background.

In fact, the music style known as Acid House apparently celebrated it’s 20th birthday in 2008. Hed Kandi releases its Acid House albums under the Back to Love label. The Hed Kandi album to celebrate, the Back to Love Anniversary Edition is available from Hed Kandi, and has a very nice cover, but this wallpaper is based on the cover of the 2003 album Hed Kandi 32: Back to Love and it is still available too (from Amazon).

Above you see the wide-screen version and as always, a specially cropped vertical version is available for mobile. It’s at high definition 640x960 resolution, to look as crisp as possible!

Jason Brooks for Hed Kandi — Pure Kandi Wallpaper

To celebrate their 10th birthday, Hed Kandi released a very special compilation album with hits from past present and future. How else could they? The cover is fantastically understated and uses simple lines to conjure up the wonderful feeling a really good evening can sweep you up in.

Jason Brooks did a great job on this Pure Kandi cover. The subtle gradient made it harder to extend the image for use as a wallpaper, but it adds so much that I couldn’t leave it out. The square-screen and wide-screen are cropped only slightly differently this time around, as the composition lends itself quite well to both shapes.

And for our mobile friends we have, not one, but two specially cropped vertical versions! They both have a high definition 640x960 resolution, so it’ll look nice and crisp on your mobile!

After a winter break, we’re back with more wallpapers! We’re starting off by fulfilling a request from Simon Jobling for a nice dark background. Jason Brook’s work for Hed Kandi is usually bright and vibrant (his work for Virgin Atlantic which the red wallpaper is based on had to be toned down quite a bit). Luckily, he’s also done some work for Chanel.

Fashion illustration is actually where Jason Brook started off in, working for Vogue and The Independent, before doing the music related illustrations we all know him from. This piece for Chanel ought to be fairly recent, 2010 I believe. I like the strong lines and almost neon-sign like quality of coloured lines on the black.

This wallpaper comes in wide-screen, square-screen and, for our mobile friends, we have a specially cropped vertical version. It’s at a high 640x960 resolution, so it’ll look nice and crisp on your mobile!

Jason Brooks for Virgin Atlantic — The Red Wallpaper

And now for something completely different. Well sure, it’s still a wallpaper. And sure, it’s still based on (a cleaned-up and adapted version of) a Jason Brooks illustration. But it’s not based on his work for either Hed Kandi nor Fierce Angels!

Yes, the opportunity arose to base a wallpaper on his other commercial work, in particular Jason Brooks’ work for Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic. Given mr. Branson started out with Virgin Records (a record store which morphed into a big music label) it’s quite a nice segue, but it still feels a little blasphemous. That might be because of all the red though.

And boy is it RED! The image was (I believe) part of Virgin’s special London offers promotion.

This wallpaper is available in wide-screen 1600x1000 and 1440x900 formats. A special crop has been made for the old 1024x768 format too. But that’s not all! Also available is a full HD-resolution iPhone 4 wallpaper, especially cropped for the 640x960 format. Enjoy!

Now here’s a double Jason Brooks wallpaper feature! Well, not really a double feature like the Fierce Disco Angels double bill last year, when it featured two completely distinct illustrations. This time round, both wallpapers are based on the same Hed Kandi Nu Disco cover by illustrator Jason Brooks.

One is an aqua-coloured one, with half a models head telling you to get on with your work…

..whereas the other one is blue-coloured with the same models head telling you to get on with your work!

As has become a regular feature, there’s also an iPhone/mobile version available of both versions of the wallpaper! It really shows the detail in the illustration. Gorgeous eyes!

Jason Brooks for Hed Kandi — Disco Heaven Wallpaper

From Jason Brook’s first tenure at Hed Kandi comes this months Disco Heaven wallpaper. I hadn’t seen this particular piece as wallpaper in a wide-screen format, so working from a nice large 1000x1000 square image I extended the piece. This made a nice change from editing out the background like I usually do. Hope you like my clouds!

This wallpaper is available in wide-screen 1600x1000 and 1440x900 formats. A special crop was made for the old 1024x768 format. But that’s not all! Also available is a full resolution iPhone 4 wallpaper, especially cropped for the 640x960 format. Enjoy!

Jason Brooks for Fierce Angel — Beach Angel Wallpaper

It’s was time again to dust off the old Photoshop. Whilst I’ve continued listing to House music, it’s been ~~a while~~ forever since I’ve put together a wallpaper of any sort, let alone one featuring Jason Brooks illustrations. You’ll recognise those illustrations as the ones that accompany Hed Kandi releases once again, and used to feature on the CDs and promotional material of Fierce Angel.

The Beach Angel wallpaper has been slightly adapted from a piece by Jason Brooks for Fierce Angel. It’s been released as a wallpaper released by Fierce Angel themselves, but I got rid of the extraneous content so as to make the wallpaper as chill as the music it accompanied. Plus, during these wet and windy autumn months it’s nice to have a summer vibe on your desktop!

Jason Brooks for Fierce Angel — Fierce Disco Angels Wallpaper (Double Bill)

Now here’s a treat: two Jason Brooks wallpapers from his time at Fierce Angels. He’s left now, and Fierce Angels have taken on Jason Jaroslav Cook to create their covers.

The first wallpaper is taken from the beautiful Jason Brooks illustration on the website of Fierce Angels, from their september 2006 re-style. A beautiful dark angel, with a big sword, high heeled boots and a thunderous sky above her. What more could you want?

Next up is a disco girl, taken from the cover of a Fierce Angels CD, Fierce Disco, in stores from 16th of April 2007. Somewhat less dramatic, but still nice to have if you’re a fan of the style.

One Phat DJ — Pro Wallpaper

I’ve been listening to Simon Jobling’s One Phat DJ, the excellent funky, sexy, house music podcast series. You should too. Twice a month, he outputs more than an hour of wicked house tunes. Give the April 2008 Crescendo one a try for instance. Of course, this is coming from someone who’s “musical compatibility rating” on last.fm is “Super” with One Phat DJ :)

So back to the subject of this post: wallpaper. I regularly feature wallpaper of house music I like, or rather wallpapers based on the artwork of house music that I like. Now apparently, I have the need to create a wallpaper out of everything I open in photoshop. I was supposed to be creating a cover for an upcoming podcast of One Phat DJ, when I realised I wasn’t busy creating a cover at all — it was a wallpaper! So while that means I had to go back to the drawing board, I still thought it’d be nice to share it with all of you.

The “One Phat DJ — Pro” wallpaper is based on a Sam Hardacre sketch of the One Phat DJ character as featured on the April ’08 Warm Up cover. While it’s obviously inspired by the NBA logo, this style seems to be used for a lot of pro sports now, even pro gaming!

It’s available for download in both wide-screen and square format. Feel free to use this wallpaper at home or at work, but please don’t redistribute (just link here).

Jason Brooks for Tokyo Project — Tokyo Project Wallpaper

When Hed Kandi creator Mark Doyle ~~sold the label~~ was forced to let go of the label [thanks for the clarification Mark] to Ministry of Sound, he left to start is own label with illustrator Jason Brooks. Although the resulting label, Tokyo Project, is gone and a new one, Fierce Angels, has taken its place, there’s still artwork left from Tokyo Project!

Quite beautiful artwork too I might add. This particular image has been extracted from the 2005 launch-parties’ flyer design, which used to be posted on the website back then. All I’ve done is crop it and extend it a bit, so all credit should still go to the aforementioned Jason Brooks. So without further ado:

This is the regular 1280x1024 adaptation, with a nice rounded white border running at the top and left.

And for smaller screens (like my own) I’ve created a 10x7 version, which is slightly cropped compared to the original.

Update 2010: New 1440x900 (both regular, full & specially cropped) and 1600x1000 (regular & full version) available.

Fierce Angels is awesome. Inspiring. Makes you dance. Makes you groove.

Their music is regularly highlighted by Simon Jobling in his One Phat DJ podcast, so I thought it might be nice to highlight the artwork associated with Fierce Angels (and Tokyo Project & Hed Kandi before). The artist in question is none other than the ever excellent — and master of vector illustration — Jason Brooks.

For your enjoyment, a wallpaper on the cover art of the ‘Digital Angel’ CD release by Fierce Angels.

Artwork was alas from a heavily artifacted jpeg (clearing up was one hell of a job I’ll tell ya) but Jason Brooks’ masterfulness should still shine through.
